Override, a U.S.-based emerging health-tech startup, has raised $3.5 million in seed funding to launch its virtual chronic pain treatment platform. This funding round was led by 7wireVentures and Martin Ventures, with participation from SignalFire and Confluent Health.

The startup was founded by former U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs David Shulkin and his daughter, Jennie Shulkin JD, who serves as its CEO. The company’s main targets are people with chronic pain in the United States. David and Jennie established the startup because 50 million adults in the country, around one in five people, live with at least one form of chronic pain, and half of them are dissatisfied with their treatments.

The platform offers a tech-centered solution to fill the gaps in traditional healthcare, whose answers to chronic pain issues do not always work for everyone.

David and Jennie launched Override to connect patients with medical professionals specializing in chronic pain. These include experts in pain medicine, physical therapy and behavioral health, who address patients individually.

About Override’s Comprehensive Pain Program

Override includes its solutions in the “Comprehensive Pain Program,” comprising chronic pain treatment strategies that differ from patient to patient. Patients can purchase pay-per-individual appointments with the Override medical professional team or opt for the monthly bundle for more intensive care.

The company is currently offering a special deal for 23 select patients. For only $23 per month, they can gain full access to Override’s monthly Comprehensive Pain Program for six months.

Jennie explained company’s goal is to provide an alternative for patients who run out of options for chronic pain treatment.

“There are countless providers and companies focusing on the low-hanging fruit: people with acute pain. That’s where traditional healthcare excels – injections, surgeries, painkillers. After traditional treatment fails, it’s chronic pain patients like me who are told they’re out of options, forgotten about, and thrown away as too complex. Override exists to serve them,” Jennie said.
